How To Make Your Lipstick Last Longer

How to Make lipsticks last longer

Whether you are busy with back to back meetings all day or are spending your day sight-seeing around your favourite city, the last thing you want to be worrying about is your lipstick coming off. Your lipstick colour looks fresh and crisp in the morning but as the day goes on, it starts fading and you are left with just a terrible outline. But don’t fret, there is a right way to apply lipstick that will make sure your lipstick lasts all day. Here is how to make your lipstick longer!

1. Prime your lips

Once your lips are prepped with exfoliation and a soft lip balm, it is time to prime your lips. Use a tiny amount of a lightweight foundation or concealer and apply it all over your lips. This will fill in any cracks in your lips and create a smooth and even base for your lipstick. This step is optional but if you ask us, this would definitely be our first answer to the “how to make lipstick last longer” dilemma.

Use a lip liner to take this one step further and define your lips. Use the Maybelline Color Sensational Shaping Lip Liner to outline your lips and prevent your lipstick from bleeding outside of your natural lip line. Or you can also try the Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink Crayon lipstick as a lip liner! The sharp and precise tip of the Superstay Matte Crayon will help you get a precise application every time. Fill your lips with the lip liner to add another layer of priming to your lips that will keep your lipstick from smudging and fading.

2. Choose a matte lipstick

Matte lipsticks, especially the liquid ones, stay longer on your lips than the soft and creamy bullet lipsticks. If you know you are going to be out all day and might not get the chance to touch up your lipstick, opt for a long-wearing matte lipstick. For example, the Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick will give you a flawless matte finish that will last up to 16 hours. Do not add a lip balm or lip gloss on top as it will take away the longevity of the lipstick below.

3. Blot and set your lips

You set your cream and liquid foundations with powder to make it last all day, why not do the same with your lipstick? The right way to apply lipstick, just like your face makeup, is to prep, prime, apply, and set. Not sure what the right way to apply lipstick is? Once your lipstick is on, blot the excess with a thin sheet or single ply of tissue paper. This takes away the excess oils from your lips, thus increasing its staying power. Apply a second coat of the liquid lipstick to increase the colour payoff and blot again. Next, use a finely milled translucent setting powder and lightly dab a thin layer of this powder on your lips to set your lipstick in place. Makeup hack – Use an eyeshadow that has a similar shade as your lipstick instead of translucent powder. This not only mattifies your lipstick but also adds some extra colour.

4. Avoid oily foods

Oil and grease in foods act just like an oil-based makeup remover. They break down your lipstick and make it move around. Oily foods not only cause your lipstick to wear off, they can also smudge your lipstick outside of your lip line, making you look messy. Avoid eating oily foods when you want your lipstick to last long. Instead, opt for dry foods that you can break into smaller chunks and eat with a spoon or fork. The lesser your lips come in contact with the food, the better!

A lipstick is a key part of any makeup trend that ties the whole look together. Whether you are a wearing a simple everyday makeup look or going full glam, you want to make your lipstick last longer. We hope these simple tips help you slay your makeup game and keep your lipstick from fading or smudging before the end of the day.
