This Viral Base Makeup Hack That Will Make You Rethink Your Makeup Routine!

This Viral Base Makeup Hack That Will Make You Rethink Your Makeup Routine!

If you have your face makeup routine down to a T – it is time to forget everything you know and try out this wildly popular base makeup hack instead. A video that went viral on social media claims to give you a flawless, airbrushed look, but with a catch – you have to apply your base makeup products out of order!

While similar techniques were first introduced by makeup gurus and YouTube veterans like Wayne Goss and Jackie Aina, the trick started making its rounds on social media in early 2020, all thanks to a user by the name Jarida. If you have never seen this base foundation routine before, buckle up, because we promise you it is a wild ride from start to finish –

Step 1 – Moisturize

No matter your makeup look or routine, the key to creating a perfect makeup base is moisturization. Prep your skin by applying a layer of your favourite moisturizer and give your skin a couple of minutes to soak in the base product for makeup before moving on to the next step.

Step 2 – Set your face with powder

Using a large and fluffy brush, apply a very thin layer of a lightweight powder. We recommend using a finely milled loose powder like the Maybelline Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder. Use the Maybelline Foundation Finder tool to make sure your loose powder shade exactly matches your skin tone. The mineral based formula of this powder not only controls excess shine but also gives you a smooth base, making it a perfect base product for makeup.

Step 3 – Spritz some setting spray

To help the powder seamlessly blend into your skin, use a setting spray all over your face and let it dry. Use the Maybelline Face Studio Lasting Fix Makeup Setting Spray to lock your powder in place and prevent it from fading or melting. Using a setting spray also enhances the wear of your makeup and keeps it in place for longer.

Step 4 – Prime your face

Now this is where things start to get a little crazy! What would have been the first base product for your makeup is now the fourth! Once your setting spray has fully dried on your face, layer a face primer on top to create a smooth canvas for your base foundation. This probably goes against every rule in the step by step makeup base rule book, but this order of applying the base makeup products is supposed to keep your makeup from budging, no matter how much oil or sweat your skin produces. Use the Maybelline Face Studio Master Prime Primer Makeup to prep your skin for foundation and visually blur away specific skin concerns. The lightweight texture of water-soluble base and the active ingredients in this makeup primer also refine the look and feel of your skin, and make your makeup last all day.

Step 5 – Apply your liquid foundation

And now for the final step of this whacky makeup routine – your base foundation. Dot the liquid foundation all over your face and blend it using a damp makeup sponge. Once your foundation base is all blended in, your face should have a flawless, full coverage base makeup that looks like you are walking around with an Instagram filter on your face!

Layer your other face makeup products like blush, contour, and highlighter, and move on to your eye makeup and lip makeup to finish this look. Use the Maybelline Virtual Try On tool to test out the different makeup products and colours virtually before applying them to your face.

This base makeup application technique is perfect for when you want a makeup that will last long and will not budge. If you prefer a more natural-looking coverage, this makeup hack is definitely not for you. But if you are on the hunt for an airbrushed party or bridal makeup base, give this technique a try!
